Immanuel College Appoints New Head and Director of Education to Lead Next Phase of Growth

Immanuel College is pleased to announce significant leadership appointments that will shape the future of the school and its community for years to come.

The Board of Governors is delighted to confirm the appointment of Mr Dan Endlar MChem as the new Head of Immanuel College.

Following an external search process, Dan was the unanimous choice to lead the school into its next phase. Since joining as Deputy Head in January 2024, and serving as Acting Head throughout this academic year, he has shown clarity of thought, personal integrity and a deep commitment to the school’s values. His rapport with pupils and staff, and his steady leadership through a period of transition, have made a lasting impression.

Dan brings with him a strong academic background – including a degree in Chemistry from St. Peter’s College, Oxford, and valuable experience from roles at Haberdashers’ Boys’ School and Brentwood School. His appointment reflects the Governors’ confidence in his ability to nurture the best of Immanuel’s current strengths while leading the school to meet the challenges of the future.

That future is changing rapidly. Education is being reshaped by advances in technology, in particular artificial intelligence, and by its impact on society. At the same time, expectations of what schools should provide are evolving, not just in terms of academic results, but in helping young people build character, identity and purpose. In such a world, standing still is not an option.

To support Dan and accelerate this process of renewal, we are also pleased to announce the appointment of Steed Education in a role best described as a Director of Education, beginning in September 2025.

Mark Steed M.A. (Cantab.), M.A., M.Sc. is a highly accomplished Head with a track record of leadership and innovation. Over more than two decades, he has served as Head at independent schools across the world including the Berkhamsted Schools Group, Kellett – the British International School in Hong Kong, and JESS Dubai – the leading International Baccalaureate (IB) school in the Middle East. He is currently Principal and CEO of Stamford School in the UK. Mark will work closely with Dan, the Senior Leadership Team and the Board to strengthen educational standards and help shape the school’s long-term direction.

Over the coming year, Dan, Mark and the Board will begin a broader strategic process – one that reaffirms the role of Immanuel College in the years ahead, and defines the path we will take to get there. This work will focus on curriculum, co-curricular and SEN provision, as well as the wider question of how best to prepare our pupils for a world transformed by AI, globalisation and cultural change.

The combination of Dan’s grounded leadership and Mark’s strategic insight reflects the Governors’ shared ambition: to deliver an unrivalled standard of education among Jewish schools in the UK – one that equips students with the confidence, creativity and curiosity to thrive in the world as it is, and as it is becoming.

We have more than a solid foundation to build on. This year’s GCSE results were among the strongest in recent memory with 70% of our candidates achieving Grades 9 to 7. Our A-Level results were also impressive. We achieved 60% A*-A grades and 83% of our UCAS applicants secured their first-choice university. There is renewed energy among staff and students alike, but we are not simply looking to improve outcomes – we are looking to redefine what success should mean at Immanuel.

This includes a renewed focus on Jewish Life and Learning, led by Dan and Rabbi Golker in light of the Chief Rabbi’s recent report. Their aim is to deepen the role of Jewish values and Zionist identity in school life, and ensure our students are equipped not only to succeed personally, but to contribute meaningfully to the Jewish community and wider society.

Immanuel College has a proud history and a vital role to play in the future of the Jewish community in London and beyond. Our mission is not only to educate, but to inspire: to create the conditions in which new generations of confident, creative and curious minds can flourish, and go on to help lead and sustain our community for decades to come.

The appointment of Dan Endlar as Head, alongside the arrival of Mark Steed as Director of Education, marks the beginning of that next chapter — and we look forward with great excitement to this new era at Immanuel College.
