What is it?

 

Drama

The Drama Scholarship is awarded to students who display exceptional skill, commitment, and a genuine passion for the performing arts. These individuals stand out not only for their talent on stage but for their deep engagement with the art of drama, approaching characters, narratives, and performance techniques with creativity and insight. They are unafraid to experiment with various theatrical forms and are constantly seeking ways to grow as performers. This scholarship celebrates students who bring a unique perspective to their craft and have the potential to make a lasting contribution to the school’s outstanding performing arts events.

Music

The Music Scholarship is awarded to students who demonstrate exceptional musical talent, dedication, and a deep passion for their art. These scholars possess both technical proficiency and a profound understanding of music’s emotional and intellectual dimensions. They are reflective musicians who engage thoughtfully with their craft, exploring various genres and styles while seeking to refine their skills. This scholarship recognises individuals who are not only accomplished performers or composers but also curious, creative thinkers with the potential to make significant contributions to the musical life of the school and beyond.

Scholars programme

Drama

Drama scholars will have the opportunity to work with a West End director during the academic year as well as with a professional actor, particularly when working on monologue performances. They will also be offered extra theatre trips throughout the year.

Music

Music scholars will have the opportunity to work with a University Musicologist who will advise on their composition work. They will be offered trips to music schools. concerts and other events as well the opportunity to perform at major school events throughout the year (in and out of school). There will also be one-to-one sessions with the Head Master, a concert pianist and music academic.

Expectations

Drama

  • Scholars will be expected to run a key stage 3 club and be there at GCSE options and A level options evenings.
  • They would be expected to take part either as director or actor in the school Drama productions.

Music

  • Scholars will take a very active role in the musical life of the college which could include: performing in concerts, assemblies, the school musical and acting as a music ambassador for the college.

How to apply

Drama

  • Perform one monologue and answer unprepared questions on it, referring to the context and author of the piece.

Music

  • Applicants will need to be Grade 5 standard in instrument or voice (no exam needs to have been taken)
  • A Performance of no more than 4 minutes on an instrument or voice.
  • A short composition task in school for 30 minutes 
  • A short interview with the Head of Music
