Tzedakah
Life at Immanuel College is not just about the 8.30 to 4.05 school day, the core curriculum subjects and public examinations. Many of the important goals of an Immanuel education are achieved beyond the classroom. Pupils develop stronger and more confident characters and grow into compassionate and responsible adults by helping others both within and outside the school community.
Each year pupils from throughout the school form a committee to organise fundraising events for charity. The Committee is called Shevet Achim and they nominate the diverse charities which benefit from their efforts.
Last year’s charities were:
Magen David Adom
Side by Side
UCH Hospital
OCH Charitable Trust
This term’s nominated charities are:
Ichlu Reim- our Israeli charity
Myeloma UK – our Non- Jewish charity
Langdon – our Jewish charity
The Sixth Form Shevet Achim captains this year are: Hannah Goldstein, Joshua Silverblatt, Ollie Collins, Tamar Lehmann, Nick Gee, Miriam Woolfman and Adam Christie.

Social Action Projects
The Immanuel Social Action programme takes as its inspiration the concept of ‘Tikkun Olam' (literally, 'world repair'). The phrase 'tikkun olam' means that Jews not only have the responsibility to create a model society among themselves but also should strive to repair the imperfections of society as a whole.
Throughout 2010/11 pupil volunteers made a sandwich-and-salad lunch for sixty visitors to the New Hope Trust each Tuesday. School projects included volunteering at the Hammerson House end of summer party, donating to an All Aboard Collection, the Ambassador competition and a school-wide recycling initiative.
On Sunday the 21st November 2010, Immanuel College took part in Mitzvah day. This is an extraordinary day where people are asked to devote time rather than money to help others. Students participated in many different initiatives that included collecting Purim costumes that were sent to an orphanage in Odessa, Ukraine, making and packaging Chanukah cards in aid of the charity Whizzkids which were sold in retail supermarket Tesco’s. Finally, Sixth Form students stood outside Kosher shops in Edgware asking customers to donate some of their shopping to needy people in the community.
Manna from Heaven
In September 2007 Immanuel College launched an exciting project called ‘Manna from Heaven’. The project aims to make 120 sandwiches with a variety of fillings along with an Israeli salad and a portion of fruit on a weekly basis for people in the Watford Newhope Trust, a shelter for the homeless. The project was inspired by Re’ut School in Jerusalem, whose pupils run a ‘soup kitchen’ project.
This project relies on the generosity of donors to enable it to happen. If you would like to make a donation to this project specifically, please contact Mrs Amdurer on 020 8950 0604.
Ongoing Projects:
• Yoni Jesner Award Scheme
• Alan Sennitt Community Leadership Programme
• Continued Sale of pizza and croissants at break time.
• Manna from Heaven
