The Immanuel Curriculum

Small classes promote the school’s academic success, as do the use of setting in subjects such as Modern Languages, Jewish Studies, Science and Mathematics and the emphasis placed on teaching pupils to think for themselves and work independently.

Boys and girls are taught separately in all subjects in Years 7 to 9 and for a number of subjects in Years 10 and 11, while the Sixth Form is co-educational. This arrangement, which strengthens the College’s ethos, ensures that pupils experience the benefits simultaneously of both single-sex and co-education.

Furthermore, we believe that that single-sex classes prevent boys from hiding their true responses to ethical issues and literary texts at an age when they are prone to strike macho attitudes in mixed classes, whilst they assist the girls’ progress at a stage in their lives when they may be reluctant to ask for clarification in front of boys.
