Jewish Life and Learning

The Beit Midrash is extensively involved with students in the Sixth Form and arranges the following:

Advanced Jewish Learning for both girls and boys

Currently, twenty five students in each sixth form year group attend voluntary Advanced Jewish Learning Sessions with the Beit Midrash Staff. Due to these numbers the Beit Midrash streams these sessions, offering textual and more discussion-based options including Talmud, classic Jewish texts, in-depth chumash, chevrutot, sefer mitzvot and current halachic issues e.g euthanasia.

Sixth form ‘Lunch and Learns’

General Lunch and Learn takes place every Thursday and is which is open to all Sixth Formers. Different guest speakers are invited to speak every week. Recent speakers have included Rabbis Tatz, Rabbi Kirsch, Rabbi Farhi and Rabbi Gottlieb. General interest speakers have included Mr Jonny Louis, Rabbi Dr. Sinclair, Mr David Sack.

Advanced (text based) Lunch and Learn

Advanced, text based, Lunch and Learn takes place every Monday and is designed to appeal to our more advanced students.

ICBM Yeshiva and Sem Trip for Year 11 and 12 students

Since 2009, the Beit Midrash have organised Yeshiva and Seminary Trips for post-GCSE students. These week-long trips, take students to experience learning in some of Israel’s most revered establishments and students enjoy shiurim given by the yeshiva/seminary Rabbonim.
This trip help those students who are considering taking a gap year in an Israeli yeshiva/seminary gain a clear understanding of the learning and experience that these establishments offer. More students that ever before are now choosing to spend their gap year in yeshiva/seminary.

Israel Advocacy Programme

The Beit Midrash runs this programme to help prepare Sixth Form students for life on university campus. The programme aims to teach students how to combat the anti-Israel and anti-Semitic sentiments that they may hear from other student groups.
To date, the programme has invited speakers from the Israeli Embassy and the UJIA, as well as representatives from the Muslim community who explain Israel from the Muslim point of view, and speakers from the Christian Friends of Israel.

Seminars include lectures such as:
• The State of Israel on Campus
• The History of the Jewish Settlements in Palestine
• Explaining Judaism to non-Jews
• My Role in the Arab Spring.

Jewish Enrichment Programme

The Jewish enrichment programme is a compulsory Jewish Studies course taken by all Sixth Form students regardless of whether they are taking the subject for AS or A Level

Talks from Representatives of all Gap Years

Talks are given throughout the year to all Sixth Form students to give insight into the options that are available to them for a gap year before university. These include all yeshiva and sem programmes, MDA medical programmes and many others.
