English examination

The paper consists of a comprehension exercise and an essay, and is one hour long.
Candidates will gain credit for careful presentation of their work and legible handwriting.
Candidates should write in blue or black ink.

In the comprehension exercise candidates will be tested on their understanding of the text and their analytical skills. When candidates write their essays they will have the chance to show imagination, to reflect on their own experience, and to display some degree of resourcefulness and range in their use of language.  They are expected to paragraph their work and to spell and punctuate accurately.  In particular candidates should be able to make appropriate use of full stops, capital letters, commas and inverted commas.
