Zedakah Round-Up

Monday, 15th December 2008

In addition to raising funds for Sierra Leone Action Relief and local Jewish families in need, Shevet Achim, the pupils? charity committee, launched its ?Ten a Term? project by which every form group chose a charity and decided how each of the pupils in the form would raise £10 for their cause. Diverse charities are being supported: the Sixth Form is fund raising for the Rambam Hospital in Haifa, two forms are supporting Hazon Yashaya, (7BJA and 7LSW), whilst among the other charities benefiting from this project are Help for Heroes, (8DMO), the Moorfield Hospital?s Aims to Cure project (11JB), the Marc Lebe Trust, (10NA), and the NSPCC, (8JMG).

The end-of-term Chanukah Fair raised £1,000 towards the chosen charities. On sale were bracelets and hair clips, (7CS), popcorn and candy floss, (Year 8 girls), bespoke kippot, (Max Sachon and Josh White), and decorated T-shirts, (Year 9 girls). The Year 10 and 11 boys organised basketball shoot-outs and beat the goalie games. Reiss Mogilner, (11GDS) deserves special mention for leading this effort. 10NA raised £230 by selling doughnuts and running a doughnut-on-a -string game. As well as helping lower school pupils, the Sixth Form ran a spirited auction.
