Year 9 pupils take a ?Journey to Safety?

Wednesday, 29th June 2011

Year 9 pupils who took part in the JCORE (Jewish Council for Racial Equality) Refugee Oral History Project - Journey to Safety at the end of 2010 have seen their work go live on the ‘Journey to Safety’ website this week, www.journeytosafety.org.uk. The website provides oral history interviews, carried about by young people who have taken part in the project, and questions and tasks for students in order to engage with the content of the interviews.

The project complemented pupils’ study of History, English and Jewish Studies. It gave them the opportunity to learn about refugees, both from World War II and more recently; oral history techniques; the use of the video camera; and texts about the responsibility Jews have to help refugees. Pupils interviewed refugees and the resulting footage is now on the website.
