Year 7 Siyyum ? Celebrating Hebrew Reading Progress

Tuesday, 19th January 2010

This week, a small group of year seven boys who arrived at Immanuel College in September unable to read Hebrew, celebrated their progress in Hebrew reading in their Ivrit and Jewish Studies lessons at a siyyum with their teachers.

The boys have succeeded in improving their Hebrew reading skills to a level which now enables them to start to learn Chumash. Rabbi Riffkin told the boys, “We have to be careful in life that we don’t get caught in the trap of doing things falsely just to make ourselves look good. It is the same with our Hebrew reading: we have to work hard to ensure that we can read properly, so that our davening is meaningful and true. Your teachers and I are all really proud of you.”

The boys celebrated in the traditional style with refreshments which reflect the teaching in our morning brachot that “the learning of Torah is sweet in our mouths”. Each boy received a certificate which recorded his achievement.
