Walking to give support for One Family
Thursday, 18th September 2008
On September 18, more than 500 pupils and staff from Immanuel College in Bushey participated in a 10-mile (16-km) walk to raise funds for OneFamily. The walk, through park and woodland, which started and finished in Cassiobury Park, Watford, raised nearly £11,200 to support families whose lives have been shattered by the troubles in Sderot.
A day earlier, the students listened to Ruti Zahavi from Sderot whose 4-year-old son was the first person killed by a Kassam rocket in Israel. Ruti spoke to them about the importance of life and how much she misses her son every day. OneFamily's London representative, Andrew Alexander, also spoke to the students at the assembly.
The following day, the entire school mobilised itself to raise funds for OneFamily and enjoyed a fantastic day. At the finishing line, the school congregated for a ceremony where the pupils were presented with One Family T-shirts.
Head Master, Philip Skelker said "I cannot think of a better way to start our school year than this inclusive and successful tzedakah project."
