Speakers to the 6th Form - September 2008

Tuesday, 30th September 2008

James Clappison, MP

Rather than giving a long speech on a particular topic, James Clappison MP immediately welcomed questions on any subject, whether political parties, worldwide conflicts or economic crises. This interesting session was a chance for 6th form students to hear the views of an informed politician on a variety of issues, such as the nuclear threat from Iran, the steps needed to avoid an economic recession, and the American Presidential race. Several students typically offered a few opinions of their own on several subjects!

Sandra Parnell, Mayor of Hertfordshire

When the Mayor of Hertfordshire, Sandra Parnell, gave a lecture to the sixth-form, her Mayor?s chain, or as she called it, ?bling?, wasn?t the only thing that impressed the students. Her passion for her job was clear as she spoke about the role of the council, from organising rubbish collections to housing, and the structure of her working life; although attending different parties and functions nearly every day sounds enjoyable, she assured the students that often it can feel mundane!
