Shevet Achim Trip to Side by Side

Wednesday, 23rd March 2011

30 pupils took part in the first-ever Shevet Achim outing on Wednesday 23rd March.  The pupils, members of the Shevet Achim committee, were invited to visit Side by Side school in Stamford Hill. This is a school for children with special needs with a difference. The nursery is integrated and disabled children learn alongside able-bodied children.

The pupils were greeted very warmly by their hosts. A large banner announced, “Side by Side welcomes Immanuel College Shevet Achim Committee”. Side by Side provided pupils with an array of goodies, cakes, drinks and sweets and, after a long coach journey, the students eagerly tucked in.

One of the school’s principals expressed gratitude and appreciation that Immanuel had included their school amongst the charities benefiting from our fundraising this year.

On their tour of the school pupils were able to interact with many delightful children, full of character and mischief. One Immanuel pupil recounts, “Whilst I was having my photo taken, one little girl was enjoying squirting me in the eye with soapy water!”

Side by Side presented each Immanuel visitor with a personal letter and a CD before leaving.

The aim of the visit was for pupils to see for themselves what Side by Side is about and the wonderful work that will be done with the funds they are raising. It was a truly inspirational trip.
