Scholars' Concert

Thursday, 1st October 2009

On Thursday 1st October, Immanuel’s annual scholars’ concert took place in the Joyce King Theatre. An audience of parents, grandparents, siblings and members of staff were greatly entertained by Daniel Turek, playing I Dreamed a Dream on saxophone (Boubil and Shönberg) and Viva la Vida (Coldplay) and Jesus of Suburbia (Greenday) on piano, Joshua Cainer, playing Stride Out (Andy Smith) on piano and singing Der Vogelfänger (Mozart), Daniel Berenson, playing Giga (Mascitti) on violin and singing Sabbath Prayer (Bock and Harnick), Joshua Koslover, playing Polish Dance (Edmund Severn) on violin, and Daniela Beach, playing Ständchen (Schubert) on piano. I played Waltz in C# minor, Op. 64, No.2 (Chopin) on piano, and sang Empty Chairs at Empty Tables (Boubil and Shönberg). The choir also performed, singing a Jersey Boys Medley arranged by Daniel Turek who also provided the piano accompaniment.

This year, we were honoured to be joined by the Ryedale Bassoon Trio, with Lully Bathurst, Lorna Tyack and Simon Alexander, who also played bassoon in Immanuel College’s 2009 production of Bugsy Malone. The trio opened and closed the concert, as well as playing at various points throughout. They played a wide variety of pieces, and their performance was much enjoyed by the audience.

Many thanks to Mr Garman, for organizing a successful, enjoyable and entertaining evening.  Thanks also go to Dr Sachania for providing such great accompaniment, Miss Johnston for preparing and conducting the choir, and all the music teaching staff for preparing the acts so well. And of course thank you to the Ryedale Bassoon Trio for coming in especially.
