Purim Fun

Friday, 18th March 2011

Immanuel College celebrated Purim in style this year with a fun-packed day of activities that captured the joyous spirit of the festival. Following a festive Tefillah, led by a penguin and accompanied by a group of bananas, in reality Mr Baigel and the pupils and form tutor of 11PM, the sixth form presented the story of Megillat Esther in a way never seen before. With help from Simon Cowell, Alan Sugar, Big Brother and Come Dine with Me, the Purim story was relived in the world of 21st century reality TV shows. Pupils then took part in a range of activities, including Megilla Music, Purim Pictionary and Haman Hangman that brought the customs of Purim to life. £1,285 was raised for Tzedakah through the selling of Mishloach Manot allowing everyone at Immanuel to fulfil two of the four major mitzvot of the day. The day ended with Years 7 to 10 taking part in fancy dress in the Immanuel fun run in aid of Comic Relief.
