Premiership Footballer Opens Fitness Suite

Monday, 17th September 2007

Premiership footballer, David Bentley, visited Immanuel College this morning to celebrate two important College occasions; the official opening of the College?s new state-of-the-art fitness suite and the Annual Sports? Assembly.

The Fitness Suite, costing £40,000, is the culmination of 12 months of tireless fundraising by the PSA and pupils. Events such as the PSA Supper Quiz, a Fun Run and a Sports Fun Day all contributed towards the cost of the equipment.

Pupils now have the opportunity to enhance their fitness and cardio-vascular levels on the water rower, Revolve bikes, treadmills, dumbbells and cross trainer machines.

David said ?it is clear that the College attributes great importance to helping these youngsters stay fit and these new facilities promote a healthy lifestyle for today and the future. The College should be commended for this.

Following the opening, David handed out medals at the College's Sports Assembly, which applauds those pupils who have excelled in the Maccabi, College and inter-school games. Pupils had the chance to ask David questions about his football career; Sammy Marchant, in Year 9, asked "who has been your biggest influence in life?? to which he relied ?my Dad and my family; I need good people around me to keep me out of trouble and help me to succeed.

His advice to all pupils was "if you give 100% in everything you do, then you'll always get a lot of rewards. If you try you're hardest and keep at it, then you'll be able to do things you most want in life."
