New Conversational Mandarin Club for 2010
Tuesday, 2nd March 2010
Immanuel College now offers its pupils the opportunity to learn Mandarin Chinese in a new extra-curricular club which started this term. A core group of 10-12 pupils attend the 50-minute session each week taught by Mr Andrew Bowman, who has lived in China, in which pupils enjoy learning conversational Mandarin Chinese as well as gaining an insight into Chinese culture.
The Head of Modern Languages, Mr Paul Abrahams says, “Immanuel College pupils now have the opportunity to learn the top three most widely spoken languages in the world, Mandarin, English and Spanish, as well as French and Modern Hebrew (Ivrit). Employers are increasingly looking for candidates who have a working knowledge of Mandarin as the Chinese economy opens up and embraces capitalism, so this should stand our pupils in good stead for the future.”
