Raz Benson a Year 9 pupil at Immanuel College has been selected to play in the Rotary “Youth Makes Music” Concert at the Royal Festival Hall this week.

“Youth Makes Music” is the biennial concert, organised by Rotary District 1130, for talented young musicians across London.

All of the participants are aged between 11 and 18 years old, and for many, this is their first opportunity to display their talents at such a prestigious venue. The concert is extremely varied: from youth orchestras, big bands and drumming groups to choirs and soloists.

Director of Music at Immanuel College, Mr Nick Garman said, “Raz is a Music Exhibitioner at the College who demonstrates excellent instrumental skills in piano and voice. He has chosen to study music at IGCSE level and has recently sat his Grade 4 singing examination. I am delighted that Raz has been given this opportunity to perform in one of the UK’s leading concert halls, an experience that will further enhance his appreciation and love for music.”

Another high achieving Year 9 musician at Immanuel College is Joshua Cainer, who leant this week that he has passed the London College of Music Grade 8 keyboard examination with distinction.

Mr Garman said, “Grade 8 is the highest grade awarded before Diploma status. Joshua’s distinction means that he gained the highest mark available, a splendid feat for any candidate, especially one as young as Joshua.”
