Israeli Soldiers visit Immanuel College
Tuesday, 29th June 2010
A group of Israel ex-servicemen visited Immanuel College under the auspices of the British Friends of Israel War Disabled (BFIWD) and Stanmore Synagogue. BFIWD is dedicated to helping disabled Israeli soldiers rebuild their lives. Tragically, Israel has over 50,000 registered war disabled. Each year BFIWD brings groups of injured soldiers to communities in the UK as a vital part of their rehabilitation. The trip changes their lives, giving them hope for the future. Pupils in Years 7-10 had the opportunity to listen to the soldiers’ feelings about serving in the Israeli army and their life stories. The soldiers included a Druze and a Bedouin who had both served in the army. Both the Immanuel College students and the soldiers commented that they had gained a lot from the experience.
