Israel Ambassador, Ron Prosor, joined over five-hundred staff and students at Immanuel College for a ceremony to mark Yom Hazikaron - Israel?s National Remembrance Day.
The Ambassador spoke about Israel?s 60 years of achievements and the importance of the State of Israel to the Jewish world. During the moving 45-minute ceremony students, as well as paying tribute with a minute?s silence, read and sang memorial prayers and other appropriate texts. Also addressing the school was a soldier from the Israeli army, who lit the memorial candle and about his recent experiences in combat.
His Excellency, Ron Prosor, Israel?s Ambassador commented:
?Yom Hazikaron is a unique occasion on which for 24 hours we think and remember our friends and relatives who gave all to the establishment and defence of the State of Israel.
?I am honoured to speak to you because I know that from this school there will emerge the Jewish leaders of tomorrow.?
Philip Skelker, Headmaster of Immanuel College said:
?I would like to thank everyone who has made this commemoration a fitting one, one which does justice to the sacrifice of the men, women and children who gave their lives over these past 60 years. I would particularly like to thank Ambassador, Ron Prosor for being with us on this important day and providing us with his profound and inspirational words.?
