Immanuel College Students Set New Record

Thursday, 20th August 2009

67% of all Advanced Level examinations sat by Immanuel College sixth-form students this summer were passed at Grade A, the highest proportion in the school’s history. The proportion of A Level examinations passed at grades A or B, required in order to secure admission to sought-after courses at the most competitive universities, has risen from last year’s 82% to an outstanding 90%.

99% of all A Level examinations taken by Immanuel students were graded A to C, and for the fourth consecutive year the College secured a 100% pass rate at A Level.

Of the 60 students who sat A Level examinations this year, an impressive 42% (25 students) secured 3 or more A grades. These students will be proceeding to a wide array of university courses, including Medicine at University College London, Economics & Mathematical Economics at the London School of Economics, Popular Music at Liverpool, Physics with Business Management at Birmingham, and Art History at Nottingham.

In the context of such uniformly strong performances, it is perhaps invidious to single out individuals; however, an exception should be made for Leah Listenberg, who, after entering the Lower Sixth at the College in September 2007 with very little English, has achieved an exceptional AAAB in this summer’s A Level examinations.

All 21 candidates for Economics A Level gained an A grade in the subject, and 18 Immanuel sixth-form students will be proceeding to competitive Economics-related courses at universities such as UCL, Nottingham, Birmingham and Manchester.

The Head Master, Philip Skelker comments, ‘I am immensely proud of this splendid set of results, which demonstrates the strength of the Immanuel College Sixth Form and the enthusiasm, talent and industry of its students and teachers.’
