Immanuel Students join 'Question Time' Debate
Tuesday, 16th March 2010
On Tuesday 16th March, Immanuel College students Joseph Hyman (UVI), Daniel Dangoor (UVI), Max Levy (LVI) and Jennifer Goldberger (LVI) joined a BBC style “Question Time” event at Queens’ School, Watford, where panellists addressed a range of questions related to issues such as terrorism and civil liberties, youth radicalisation, belief and politics, foreign policy, surveillance and privacy, as well as broader issues relating to the state of politics in the UK.
The debate, which was part of the “Watford School Debates”, was chaired by Austin Williams, an architect who is Director of Future Cities Project and included panellists Inayat Bunglawala, Media Secretary, Muslim Council of Britain; John Fitzpatrick, Professor of Law, University of Kent; Richard Harrington, Chairman, Conservative Friends of Israel; Humphrey Hawksley, BBC World Affairs Correspondent; Minette Marrin, Columnist, The Sunday Times.
Immanuel’s Head of Modern Hebrew, Mrs Mazal Nisner, who accompanied the students to the debate, says: “These students were a credit to Immanuel College, defending Israel and the Jewish world from the floor. Without them the debate would have been very unbalanced. This was an excellent experience for them, preparing them for life at university where they will have to speak up for their beliefs and values whilst interacting with the wider population”.
