Girls? Music Concert
Thursday, 10th March 2011
The audience was in for a treat on Thursday evening, 10th March, at the first Girls’ Musical Concert, when Immanuel College girls from almost every year group performed some of their favourite songs. This was a hugely enjoyable evening that showcased our girls’ musical talents.
The evening began with a sparkling and sweet rendition from Lior Carno and Jodie Jacobs (Year 7) of A Whole New World from Aladdin. This was swiftly followed by Kayla Jaffe (Year 8) singing a chirpy Popular from the West End Show Wicked. Tania Pears (Year 8) gave a moving performance of I’d give my life for you from Miss Saigon and Danielle Abkin (Year 7) had all the attitude needed for her version of I can hear the bells from Hairspray.
Other highlights of the evening were the passionate and heartfelt interpretation of Use Somebody by the Kings of Leon, which was sung by Anna Shapiro (Year 9), who also accompanied herself on the piano, and the powerful harmony of Georgia Katz, Georgia Barnett and Kayla Jaffe (all Year 8) as they sang Defying Gravity from Wicked. Shira Abkin (Year 10) gave an animated and theatrical performance of So much better from Legally Blond.
The evening culminated with all the performers singing a vibrant and happy What a Feeling from Flashdance.
With thanks to all who took part in this hugely successful evening, and especially to vocal teacher, Mrs Dehaan and Musician-in-Residence, Mrs Levenson who prepared the girls for their performances.
