En d of Term Chanukah Concert
Thursday, 13th December 2007
The 2007 Chanukah Concert, presented on its final evening, brought the Succoth Term to a harmonious close. A packed audience in The Joyce King Theatre was delighted by the variety, verve and quality of the performances.
Naomi Sheer's performance of the Elgar ?Salut d'Amour? sensitively portrayed the lyric and wistful character of Elgar's morceau, whilst her sister, Hadassah gave an accomplished, confident and eminently stylistic account of the first movement of the Neruda Trumpet Concerto. Omer Shneider's Chopin displayed not only a technical command of the instrument but also his ability to communicate the inherent poetry of the ?Fantasie Impromptu.? Joshua Koslover articulated the Eastern European rhythms of Nolck's ?Hungarian Dance? with panache, delighting the audience, while Joel Fisher's performance of Gershwin?s ?Oh Lady Be Good? was memorable for its polish, suavity and sophistication. Daniel Turek's fine performance of the Granados's Spanish Dance No. 2 successfully transported the audience to the sultry climes of the Iberian Peninsula.
Among the contrasting, but no less enjoyable, performances given in the second half of the concert were solo drum pieces from Jonah Weiss and Miles Markham and ?Ruby? sung by Nathan Pomerance.
Our thanks go to Mr. Garman, the Director of Music, to Dr. Sachania who accompanied many of the soloists and to the members of the peripatetic staff who prepared their pupils so ably.
