Commemorating Holocaust Memorial Day
Monday, 28th January 2013
Immanuel College commemorated Holocaust Memorial Day on Monday 28th January 2013. Year 12 pupils led sessions for lower school pupils educating them about the atrocities of the Holocaust and relaying experiences and diary excerpts from their recent school trip to Poland.
Head Boy, Joshua Cainer and Head Girl, Hilary Warrens, took part in the Hertsmere Borough Council service for Holocaust Memorial Day. The theme of the service was ‘Building a Bridge’ and the event was attended and led by pupils from schools across the Borough: Immanuel College, Yavneh College, Hertswood Academy, Aldenham School, Queens School, Bosnian Community, Dame Alice Owens School, Haberdashers’ Aske’s Girls’ School and Parmiters School. Pupils read poems and Statements of Commitment and lit memorial candles for the victims of the Holocaust, Darfur, Bosnia and Rwanda. Musical accompaniment was provided by pupils from the Purcell School.
