Art Teacher Runs Marathon for Kisharon

Thursday, 29th April 2010

Immanuel art teacher Bettina Jacobs is "on a high" having run the Virgin London Marathon for the first time and was one of seven runners to cross the finishing line to raise funds for Kisharon. Mrs Jacobs has raised over £3500 for the charity which helps children and adults with learning difficulties. Her finishing time was 5:03:51

She said: "As a teacher I feel that is important recognise the amazing work that Kisharon does for kids with learning difficulties and, as a parent of  two-year-old boy, I really appreciate having a child who does not have these problems. I put in a lot of effort into training and it was going well until I got a dodgy knee, but I was fine. I ran for 21 miles, then I walked and jogged and seeing family and friends gave me the boost to finish. The crowds were incredible and I enjoyed the camaraderie with the other runners, I caught up with another runner wearing a Kisharon vest, who I now know was Brian Resnick, and we ran together for a while. I have fulfilled the dream of running the marathon, it was one of my lifelong ambitions. Now I am looking foward to getting back to normal, to having my Sundays back and having more time for family and friends and for socialising. It has made me realise the true dedication of the professional athletes."

Dr Beverley Jacobson, the charity’s chief executive, said: “As someone who has run the marathon in previous years, I understand the huge sacrifice that goes into training and preparing for the race. We truly appreciate the efforts of all of our runners and will put the money to good use."
