A Trip to the Sam Beckman Day Centre
Wednesday, 18th November 2009
On Wednesday 18th November, a number of pupils, from Year 8 and Year 9, all boys except for me, went to the Sam Beckman Day Centre.
When we got there we were given five minutes to prepare ourselves; then we were on. We performed a mini concert for the residents; this included many piano pieces, a saxophone piece, a percussion piece, some string pieces, some singing, and also some duets. A boy in Year 9 also read a poem that he had written. The range of pieces played and sung ranged from Israeli songs such as “Baruch Hagever” to “New York, New York” and from “Hava Nagillah” to “I Gotta a Feeling.”
During some songs like “New York, New York” our audience sang too and during some songs like “Hava Nagillah” they got up and danced; it was lovely to watch the people getting involved.
The trip was a really great experience and I would like to thank all the teachers who helped take us to the Centre and made it possible to go. I would also like to thank the staff and the people at the Sam Beckman Day Centre for letting us visit. And, of course, last, but not least, Mrs Amdurer for organizing the trip.
