Over 70 pupils packed into the school’s dining room on Thursday 28th January for a siyum to celebrate the completion of Masechet Makkot. During the past term, the pupils — both boys and girls — have been learning Makkot in their morning breaks at the school Beit HaMidrash’s ‘Mishna and Munch Club’.
The siyum was hosted by Beit HaMidrash teacher, Mr. Zvi Ormonde, and the proceedings were led by Year 11 student Aryeh Dworkin.
Mr Ormonde said, “This is an amazing moment. The mitzvah of learning that we celebrated today is a testament to the students’ commitment to their Judaism. We started in September with only eight people, and when word about the club spread through the school, so many pupils wanted to come to ‘Mishna and Munch’ that we expanded from two tables to five tables of learning. We have now had to expand even further and introduce a ‘Parsha and Munch’ club during lunch break.”
The event was attended by Head Master, Mr Philip Skelker, Deputy Head Master, Mr Richard Felsenstein, and Director of Judaism, Rabbi David Riffkin.
